2 charged with drug offenses following bust

On May 6, two individuals were taken into custody after authorities seized drugs and firearms from a Washington home. The bust occurred in an apartment complex located in the 600 block of Washington Avenue in Bremerton.

Authorities stated that detectives made a series of controlled buys from one of the individuals. They then executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search of the apartment, authorities seized more than 130 grams of methamphetamine and four firearms. They also seized bullet-proof body armor, almost $700 in cash and a vehicle.

One of the individuals was identified as a 38-year-old man who was a convicted felon. In addition to felony drug charges, authorities were recommending that he receive an additional charge for being in possession of a firearm as a felon. The other individual, an unidentified woman, was facing drug charges.

Those who have been issued drug charges may be facing serious consequences if a conviction is obtained, depending on the amount and type of drugs that were found. Lengthy incarceration and hefty fines are possible penalties, in addition to the difficulties in obtaining future employment that a felony conviction can bring. As such, those who are in this type of a position may want to meet with a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible so that the construction of a strategy to counter the charges can commence. One line of attack in some cases would be to challenge the search that led to the seizure of the drugs as being made without probable cause.
