Man pleads guilty after drunk driving causes fatal crash

A man from Washington who has been accused of criminal activity relating to a fatal car accident in 2015 has pleaded guilty to the indictments against him. The man, who was 21 years old at the time of the crash, will be sentenced to prison for hit and run, DUI and reckless driving.

The accident occurred in Redmond on Highway 520. A 30-year-old man was waiting at a red light when the defendant, who was allegedly impaired at the time according to authorities, ran into him with his car. The ensuing wreck killed the older man.

The man first tried to escape on foot from the scene of the accident, only to be found by the police with the help of their trained dogs and taken into custody. He was then transported to the hospital for treatment and eventually brought to jail. After thathe posted bail and departed, later failing to make a scheduled appearance before the court and requiring the police to track him down and take him into custody again. He is facing up to 125 months in prison when he is sentenced in July.

This is only one example of the stringent penalties associated with drinking and driving. Those who are convicted may also have difficulty finding employment after they are released. As a result, people who are facing felony DUI charges may want to obtain the representation of a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible so that a strategy can be developed to combat them. In some cases an attorney can successfully challenge the results of a breath test on the grounds of improper calibration of the machine.
